by Adam Horovitz
Released to coincide with Laurie Lee's centenary, our own Adam Horovitz (who works in the Greenshop when not writing in the Slad Valley) has written a book celebrating the spirit of Laurie and the spirit of the Slad landscape. It is in part Adam's own version of Cider with Rosie, set in the same valley that Laurie Lee grew up in 60 years later, but he also lyrically explores the impact of Laurie on the valley and the legacy of writing on landscape and people and weaves in a spirited defence of the preservation of the landscape.
A Thousand Laurie Lees is laced with humour, lyricism, poetry and myth and is, according to David Caddy on the Tears in the Fence blog, "a delight and joy to read". It has been lavishly illustrated by illustrator Jo Sanders and photographer Dan Brown.
We are selling signed copies and a companion pamphlet of poems written for the centenary, Only the Flame Remains.

"Horovitz notes the seasonal whims of flora and fauna with the eye of a modern Richard Jefferies, and draws wry parallels between Lee’s celebration of childhood memories and his own. Jo Sanders’s drawings, and photographs by Dan Brown and others, enrich the book’s sense of community, place and time passing..."
