The Freeplay Ranger radio is designed with portability and ruggedness in mind. This radio is a variation on the original spring-powered system. Instead of the spring, it has a direct drive dynamo that charges the internal NiMh battery as you wind. 30 seconds of winding will give around 35 minutes of playing time but the battery can store power for up to 25 hours listening. Available in transparent blue only.

The battery is also charged by the built-in solar panel when there is sufficient light available. The radio can be also be charged from the mains using the adaptor supplied. There is an output socket for use with headphones. The radio operates on the MW and FM bands.

USBcell - AA rechargeable batteries.
This NiMH AA battery can be used like a normal battery, recharged simply by plugging into a USB port. These batteries eliminate the need for a charger making them very convenient and ideal for PC input devices such as a mouse or keyboard.

However we would only recommend charging the batteries when the USB port appliance would normally be in use. Our one concern with this product is that computers may be left on simply to charge the batteries, negating the energy saving value!
