Eco-balls® are used in the washing machine instead of detergent and can save water and energy by doing without the need for a second rinse cycle. The manufacture say they produce ionised oxygen that naturally activates the water molecules. This makes for an efficient wash without harsh detergents, using less water and time. Ecoballs® extend the life of the washing machine because there is no chemical build-up. They soften the water so no fabric conditioner is needed and minimise the colour fading of fabrics.
Eco-balls® contain no bleaching agent, if your whites require a boost we recommend you use ether a little Ecover Laundry Bleach or household borax. Both products are available from us (see below).
Each pack of three Eco balls® will last for 1,000 washes - working out at around 3p per wash. They are suitable for people with sensitive skin.

Save money and energy with dryer balls. Tumble driers are notoriously expensive to run, but using dryer balls will reduce drying time by 25% and eliminate the need for fabric softener.

We found these dryer balls really did work, drying time was cut by about 25% (as they claim) and the clothes, even towels, came out soft and fluffy without the use of fabric conditioner.

The yellow and green balls have different tensile strengths and softening nodes, designed to work in combination to lift and separate the laundry whilst drying. They also retain the heat and transfer it to the clothes as they tumble, thus aiding the drying process.

Why use borax? Borax is a very safe substance with low toxicity for humans and higher animals. It still very effective as an anti-bacterial, cleaning, fungicidal, and bleaching agent. Using Borax to replace other harsher products is a healthier option for yourself and the environment. Our Green Shop Borax has many uses around the home for cleaning for which we have listed some recipes below.

LAUNDRY: Add half a cup of Green Shop Borax to your wash load with the usual amount of washing powder to boost its cleaning power and deodorise the wash.

DELICATES: Soak in a solution of 1 or 2 tablespoons of washing powder and a quarter cup of Borax in a bowl of warm water. Rinse in cool water and dry as appropriate.

REFRIGERATOR: Dissolve 1 tablespoon of Borax in a litre of warm water and use to wipe the fridge clean and deodorise it at the same time.

CARPET STAINS: Test on an unexposed area for colour fastness first. Mix the Borax into a paste and rub into the affected area allow to dry and then vacuum the powder. For wine and other liquid stains dissolve half a cup of Borax in half a litre of warm water, leave for 30 minutes and sponge off. For odours dampen the area sprinkle with Borax and vacuum when it has dried.
