Leela Fair Trade Wooden Toys
Leela is a Fairtrade company that has a sound ethical reputation and who market their products in partnership with Maya Organic, India. Maya aims to create prosperity amongst village workers through helping them to achieve an independent livelihood.

These enchanting toys have a classic yet contemporary appeal and the Greenshop staff have fallen in love with them. They are all too nice to put away as they look so appealing on the nursery shelf.

The wonderful colours all come from natural vegetable dyes. An organic natural resin, called lac, gives the toys a safe non-toxic finish. As this is a natural product, lac-ware does differ from synthetic painted finishes, so be sure to give these toys the love they deserve*

*These are amongst the best environmentally sound toys that we have seen so far. Because the finish is from a natural resin the following precautions will help you keep the toys in good condition;
-Protect from impact/sharp blows
-Protect from moisture/water (Contact with water may cause contraction of wood and could lead to peeling off of lac coating)
-Protect from sunlight (May cause natural dyes to fade a bit)
-Lac-ware can be cleaned with a dry cloth. If necessary can be cleaned with damp cloth, (water, not chemical sprays), and then immediately dried with a dry cloth.

Happy Mais
We have just discovered this ecological toy which children will love, (and adults too!?!), it is made from a natural GM free corn starch material, is totally bio-degradable and compostable. All you need is a small amount of water on the sponge provided and the pieces will stick together to make almost anything you can think of, flowers, animals, boats, people, planets, monsters, spaceships....
The pieces can be cut, moulded or even grated to create special effects like snow and sand, or wet the pieces and use the non toxic food colouring to create a special water colour painting.
For each box sold the manufacturer will make a donation to the "Fondo per la Terra" (Earth Fund Association), which protects and conserves large areas of tropical rain forest.

Tinti Bathwater Colours
Bathwater colours are made with panthenol, sea minerals and plant extracts. They only colour the water not skin or the bathtub. Tinti is biodegradable and soft to the skin due to the panthenol and mineral salts. One pack contains three sachets - Yellow, red and blue, simply tear open the sachet drop into the bathwater and watch the colours come bubbling and fizzing out until all the water is coloured. The colours can be mixed and make taking a bath great fun.
