Merdeka
Merdeka means freedom and independence. It is a very local business based near us in Gloucestershire. Set up in 2002 by Deborah Gardiner who spent a year in south east Asia. Whilst there she discovered a family making beautiful products, and at once they developed a rapport with one another. Other products have been sourced, enhancing the range available, these are from the same village and still using the same traditional methods.

The products are made from local natural materials including fallen leaves and banana bark. These materials are collected without damage to the trees. Also the textured paper is made from rice husk, a waste product. The relationship follows fair trade principles and there is a harmonious relationship between both sides.
