SUNday Report23-June-2002: In this year when we still seem to be waiting for the summer to begin, we were luckily granted a day free of rain and even a little sun for our SUNday festival this year. To pull in the crowds entertainment came in a variety of guises - we could sit and have our lunch to anything from folk to jazz from local band Grand Union. The RinkyDink with Baka Beyond were here complete with their bicycle powered sound system and the Stroud Samba Band brought anyone that was flagging rapidly back to life in the afternoon.
The more serious messages about energy saving and pollution free production came from the Severn Wye Energy Agency, Stroud District Council, Ecotricity, Unit[e], Monodraught Sunpipes, Severn Print and Energy 21. There were displays an demonstrations of natural paints and finishes from Lime Earth Paints, Auro and OS. We also had a first outing for the new Green Shop solar trailer. This has three 80W solar panels charging six 110 Amp hour lesuire batteries. These drive a 2kw inverter to supply power for a range of in the field events. To prove it had enough juice to drive refrideration we used to power the ice cream van, enabling it's engine to be turned off. Ideal for fete's, festivals and educational events the trailer is available to rent. Contact Roger or Eddie for details - enquiries@greenshop.co.uk
Thanks also to the Stroud Valleys Project for the Energy Classroom borrowed for the day from The Wilderness Centre, Forest of Dean and to September Organic of Hereford for some excellent organic ice cream. For further info see: Ecotricity,
