For anyone that has a free standing woodburner these are a brilliant accessory. The Ecofan 810 would be the size to use in a canal boat, yurt or smaller home. They need to have room above the Ecofan to operate effectively*
Ecofans are designed for use on wood burning stoves. They create their own electricity to circulate the warm air from the wood stove throughout a room instead of it going directly to the ceiling. By distributing the stove's heat more evenly, the Ecofan GS allows homeowners to feel warmer and recognize fuel savings.
The fans, made by Caframo, use thermoelectric technology to generate their own electricity, through a temperature differential, converting the surface heat of the stove into electricity that is then used to power a fan.
To operate, the base of the fan must make contact with a heat source of at least 150ºF (65°C) and the top of the fan must remain cool. *(So may not work efficiently if stove is set in a small recess, such as a chimney opening, unless there is sufficient height above fan.) The Ecofan needs to draw cooler air from behind in order to operate. The actual rotation of the blade as well as the cooler air and the heat source are the essential elements needed for the Ecofan to operate.
No batteries, starts automatically and adjusts its speed with the surface temperature of stove
Designed for use on stoves with normal surface temperatures of 400ºF - 650ºF (205ºC - 345ºC)
